2018 Q1 What's in a Name

What's in a Name

The New York Times recently asked Gen Z-ers what they would call their generation if they had the choice. Many of the suggestions centered on change, hard work and the technology-driven world in which they have grown up. Here are some of the popular answers:

THE SISU GENERATION
(“Sisu” is a Finnish word that roughly translates to grit in the face of hardship)

DELTA GENERATION
(“Delta” denotes transformation and ambiguity in math)

THE SCAPEGOATS/ GENERATION FIX-IT
(referencing their feeling that they have been left with a mess to clean up from prior generations)

THE MEME GENERATION/ MEMENNIALS/ GENERATION SNAP SPIMES
(The term “spimes” was coined by the sci-fi writer Bruce Sterling and means: an object tapped into the “internet of things,” aware of its surroundings, and continuously documenting itself…)
